For us at Runaway Meadow Farm, it means heritage, health, home, and heart. It represents a love of the land, a commitment to nourishing food, and a deep desire to give back. This farm grew out of dreams, hard work, and a personal mission: to raise the kind of food we feel good feeding our own families.
Our journey started with a challenge many can relate to - dealing with food allergies and sensitivities in our children and ourselves. When traditional medicine didn’t provide answers, we began looking at food differently. Returning to a more natural, ancestral way of eating made a big difference. We quickly learned that while it was possible to find organic, grass-fed meat, finding consistent supply was another story. That led to a bigger question:
That’s when the idea of starting our own farm took root, and we’ve never looked back.
In October 2015, we officially began with two heifers and a modest horse lean-to. From there, our little farm blossomed. Thanks to a whole lot of sweat, teamwork, and determination, fences went up, barns were built, pastures were cleared, and woods were thinned out. Each of us brings unique strengths to the table, and together we built something bigger than we ever imagined.
Today, three generations work side by side to care for our growing herd of cattle and our laying hens. Every animal is raised with love and respect using organic and regenerative methods. We’ve spent countless hours researching the best cattle breeds, pasture layouts, and low-intervention health practices to make sure everything we do aligns with nature and our values.
It starts with the soil. Healthy soil is the foundation of everything. That’s why our pastures are free from pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers. Through rotational grazing, our cattle are frequently moved to fresh grass during the growing season. In winter, they eat organic hay from our own fields and always have access to open pastures, clean water, minerals, and shelter. No hormones. No antibiotics. No vaccines. Just real care, clean food, and a whole lot of hands-on attention.
We believe in beyond organic standards. Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s right. We’re always learning, always improving, and always striving to work with nature, not against it.
